Fun at Ho Chi Minh

When I announced that I am going to Ho Chi Minh City for 6 days, many people wondered what I would be doing there.  The frequent question I got was "Aren't 6 days too long?"  Well, 6 days are just right for Ho Chi Minh City.  We visited many museums and cafes.  Here are some interesting places I went.

Shopping and Food

Ben Thant Market

Ben Thant Market is popular among tourists.  Things sold there can be more expensive than other markets.  There are small stalls selling food and handicrafts, textiles and clothings.  Some textiles stalls also double as tailors.

Vendors can be quite agressive.  They will touch you when you pass their stalls.  Just kindly shake your head or hands to indicate that you are not interested.

Food at Ben Thant market

Usually we avoid eating food from street hawkers.  It is quite safe to have a meal at Ben Thant market.  You can find quite a variety of local food such as Pho and Ban Mi.

Other Shopping Malls

1.  Sagion Centre

This is where you find Takashimaya, Topshop, Converse etc

2.  Saigon Square :

This place is almost similar to Hong Kong Ladies Street.  It is air-con unlike Ben Thant Market.

3.  Diamond Plaza

This mall is just like any regularly mall.  We went there to check the food court.
The food court is surprisingly clean.  You are given a number stand once you order and food will.be served.  There is even a store selling Singapore dim sum, noodles and rice.

4.  Chi Chi

This is my favourite shops.  I planned to tailor a cheong sam at Vietnam.  I happened to see a lady wearing a nice cheong sam walking into this shop and followed her.  The shop sells modernised cheong sam.  I paid around $200 for a cheong sam in Singapore, but I got one in this shop for only $30.  I also bought a top for only $19.  If you are into cheong sam, you can get a custom-made one for USD58.

Address  :  138 Pasteur St, District 1 Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Overall Ho Chi Minh is an interesting city which waits for us to discover.  There are so many cafes and small shops still waiting for us to explore.
